The LGM board, cover off
Every board we fit looks like this. At least 2 spare ways, blanked and marked, on every board.
1 main switch · 2 surge protection · 3 RCBO on every circuit · 4 at least 2 spare ways · 5 earths in circuit order · 6 main earth 16mm² · 7 bonding 10mm² · 8 torqued and marked · 9 cables in through glands
Essential
Metal board, an RCBO on every circuit, surge protection.
Premium
Essential plus arc-fault protection (AFDDs) on sockets and bedrooms, and an energy monitor.
Future-Ready
Premium plus a larger board with room for an EV charger, solar or a battery.
Every tier: At least 2 spare ways · certificate · power station loan · Property Passport tag · 6-year guarantee · fixed price, unless we find a hidden fault, which we agree with the customer before we start.
The job, step by step
Same order on every board. Chapter 2 of the video covers each step.
Booked. Every job starts with a video survey or a Basic Board Safety Check. The office records the board tier, the board plan, survey photos, isolator, earthing type, any solar, battery or EV, care notes, the fixed price and the deposit. No isolator: the office books one before the job is offered.
Offered. WhatsApp and email: area, tier, circuits and spare ways, arrival time, the agreed power-off window, your pay and the certificate deadline. Reply YES or NO within 30 minutes. On YES: full address, customer details, job pack. Reply GOT IT once you have checked the plan against the photos.
Prepare. Night before: read the board plan way by way. Every device in the pack matches the plan and is the same make as the board. Count the ways: circuits + at least 2 spare. Download the maker’s instructions (torque values, SPD wiring). Charge the power station. Print the chart, notices and Passport tag.
Customer. The office confirms the date, your name, arrival window and power-off window, explains the power station and asks for a metre clear around the board and meters. Reminder the day before (reply C). You send “on my way” with an arrival time in the job chat.
Arrive. Check-in photo, name, LGM ID, shoe covers. Six questions, including solar, battery or EV. As-found photos: old board closed and open, thermal image under load, cut-out with seals, earthing and bonding. Agree the power-off window out loud again.
Protect. Dust sheets from the door to the board, corner and floor protection, vacuum ready from the start. Power station set up before anything goes off: router, laptop, phones. Fridge and freezer stay shut.
Pre-test. Ze and prospective fault current at the origin. Earthing and bonding present and sized. Identify every circuit. Isolated: insulation resistance on every circuit, check for borrowed neutrals. Record as found. Hidden fault: stop, make safe, photo, message the office, wait for the customer’s written agreement.
Isolate. Never break a seal or pull the cut-out fuse. Switch off at the isolator and lock it off. Prove the tester, test dead L–N, L–E, N–E, lock off with your own lock, prove again. Solar or battery: isolate those too, as their labels say.
Strip out. Tag every conductor (3L, 3N, 3E) before you disconnect it. Photo of the tagged board. Cut back damaged ends to fresh copper. Too short: hidden fault process. Suspect asbestos: stop, don’t break it, call. The old board leaves with you for recycling.
Fit. Level, square, every fixing used. Cables in through the maker’s glands, no open holes. Devices in plan order. SPD as the instructions show. Every terminal torqued to the maker’s value and marked. Earths and neutrals in circuit order. Correct strip lengths. Every spare way blanked.
Test. Dead tests first: continuity (R1+R2, rings), insulation resistance, polarity. Main switch on with every RCBO off, then one circuit at a time. A trip: stop and find out why. Live: Ze, PFC, Zs every circuit, every RCBO at IΔn with trip time, test buttons, SPD indicator, AFDD test.
Restore. Every circuit works: lights in every room, sockets with a plug-in tester, cooker, shower, water heater, boiler and heating controls, alarms tested, fridge, freezer and router on, clocks reset. Send POWER ON with the time in the job chat.
Hand over. Typed circuit chart (spares marked), RCD test notice, next inspection label, mixed colours notice if needed. Passport tag fitted and scanned. Show the customer a trip, the reset, the test button and the 2 spare ways. Power station back, sheets up, vacuum, after photos.
Certify. EIC on the Amendment 4 forms, every schedule complete, trip times recorded, 15-photo set, by 9am the next day. The Qualified Supervisor checks every job. The office sends the certificate, makes the Building Regulations notification, issues the guarantee and the balance invoice.
After. One message to the landlord or homeowner with everything in it. One week on: is everything working? Review request. Next inspection date into the compliance diary.
